Chapter 1 is the first chapter of A Way Out. It tells how Vincent and Leo meet each other in prison for the first time.
Beginning Cutscene[]
On a plane, Leo asks Vincent what he's gonna do after they land, he replies that he doesn't know as he hasn't thought about it. They soon talk about overthinking and being smart. After the conversation, this is the moment that the players must choose between Vincent and Leo.
Walkthrough[]
A prison bus has just arrived at an unknown prison with Vincent Moretti inside, about to serve 14 years for murder as the bus soon stops. In the prison yard, Leo Caruso, in his 6th month of 18 years for grand theft auto is sitting on a bench before getting up.
Vincent[]
Vincent is the last prisoner on the bus as he is told to get off by a guard and he does so before heading inside. He is soon escorted to reception where he signs his name before being moved into a room where he must remove his clothes and afterwards is hosed down. After being hosed, he goes down a path where he is given a set of prison clothes and lined up with the other new convicts as the warden, Williams introduces himself before a convict asks when they're allowed visitors before Williams instructs a nearby guard to hit him. After the introductions, Vincent and the convicts soon start moving to their cells. Vincent's cell is next to Leo's and he immediately puts on the prison clothes.
Leo[]
Leo prepares to head back to his cell. As he leaves, he notices two convicts fighting before guards head over to deal with the situation. He soon comes up to a nearby doorway where a guard does a pat down on him before letting him through. He soon comes up to a closed door, asking a nearby guard to open it, which he does. After passing through a doorway, he is confronted by Dragomir, hired by Harvey to kill him, but a guard stops him. After cursing him and Harvey both, Leo starts heading to his cell, which is next to Vincent's.
Cutscene[]
Sometime later, Leo is leaning against a prison wall when a fellow convict says that someone is asking for him and points out where they are.
Vincent[]
Vincent is sitting by himself before getting up to walk off. He soon came up to the basketball court where he sees Leo being beaten by a convict before the crowd pushes him in.
Leo[]
Leo makes his way to where the person is and the moment he steps into the basketball court, he is grabbed by two convicts as Dragomir soon shows up to kill him for Harvey.
Together[]
The hired convict is surprised to see the new fish and has someone after him before Leo breaks free and together they start fighting the convicts before guards arrive, telling them to stop or they'll be put in solitary. The hired convict warns Leo before the latter comes up to Vincent. Instead of thanking him, he tells him to stay away.
Vincent[]
At the cafeteria, Vincent is waiting in line to get his meal and when he gets his, he goes to sit down. When the convict hired to kill Leo comes up behind him, he tries to intervene, but is knocked back by another convict.
Leo[]
Leo enters the moment Vincent gets his meal and is blocked by two convicts before he hits them to make them move out of the way. As Leo comes up and sees his meal, he complains before Dragomir comes up behind him. They wrestle before Vincent tries to intervene.
Together[]
The fight soon goes on in the kitchen as the hired convict grabs two kitchen knives and tosses one to another convict, who waves it at Vincent while he goes for Leo. They both back away, knocking down shelves and throwing trays at them to try and force them back. They were both soon cornered at the back room where a convict beats Vincent up while the hired convict knocks Leo down and tries to stab him in the head. Some guards soon appear and pull the hired convict away, but he soon threatens them before stabbing a nearby guard to death before being beaten to death himself.
Cutscene[]
In the infirmary, Leo is injected with a needle by a nurse. As the nurse leaves, he notices through a window an unattended screwdriver before lying down and turns to Vincent, who is lying nearby. They introduce each other before Leo thanks him for trying to help stop the hired convict before Vincent asks what is going on, but Leo says it is a long story. He soon asks him to help him, but Vincent refuses, but later changes his mind when Leo plans on doing it himself, so that they both don't end up in the hole.
Together[]
Leo leaves his nursery bed and hides behind the nursery's door as Vincent is calling the nurse. Leo crouches behind the wall of the nursery to hide. On his side, Vincent asks a question to the nurse. It can be : "Can I get water ?" or "When could I leave ?", it comes back to the player to choose the answer. Leo crosses a corridor, hiding out and arrives behind a wall, near to the guard office. The guard is working and Leo needs Vincent's help to get the screwdriver on a table near of his position. Vincent can knock on the glass which separates the guard and him to distract him and let Leo pass. Leo can then take the tool and sneak under a table to hide from a worker. He goes back to his bed while Vincent distracts a last time the nurse. He lies down on the bed, hiding the screwdriver.
Cutscene[]
Leo and Vincent are escorted back to their cells after their treatment at the infirmary before Leo notices a guard patting down a convict and drops the screwdriver outside an open window before the guard asks what he was doing, but he replies "Nothing" as he goes to catch up with him and Vincent. Some time later, at the basketball court, Vincent comes up to Leo, asking for his plan. Leo tries to deny it, but Vincent doesn't buy it. Leo tells him to back off before Vincent tells him he must have good reasons to bust out of jail, wanting to come too. Leo replies that he doesn't need his help, but Vincent reminds him about the infirmary and says Harvey's name. Angered, Leo pushes Vincent up to a fence and asks how he knows Harvey, Vincent sarcastically replies the walls are thin before saying they have something in common, they both want him dead. Leo tells him that he doesn't know shit, but Vincent tells him that Harvey killed someone very close to him and is going after him with or without Leo before saying that they work together, their chances are slim. Leo just stares at him before walking away.
Cutscene[]
Leo paces in his cell as the lights go out before knocking on the wall, next to Vincent's cell and tells him it is his plan and decides what goes down. Vincent accepts, even earning a death threat from Leo before asking about his plan, Leo replies he'll know soon enough.
